What's it like to live in Ridglea Hills?
Ridglea Hills covers a big stretch of west Fort Worth between Camp Bowie Boulevard and Vickery, about six miles from downtown, and most of its homes are 1950s and '60s mid-century. The streets roll and the trees are mature. The neighborhood association counts more than 1,300 households. (Ridglea Hills Neighborhood Association)
People here put on a Fourth of July parade, and the elementary school is part of neighborhood life. Over the last several years, a lot of the original houses have been bought and renovated, something a longtime resident talked about in a 2025 Fort Worth Report profile.
Where is Ridglea Hills?
The association puts it on the west side between Camp Bowie Boulevard on the north and West Vickery on the south, excluding the Hampton Place subdivision. Don't confuse it with the Ridglea Hills Addition, a separate neighborhood with its own association on the other side of Southwest Boulevard. The ZIP code is 76116.
I-30 runs just north of Camp Bowie here, so getting downtown or to the Cultural District is quick.
Ridglea Hills vs. Ridglea North vs. Ridglea Country Club Estates
Three neighborhoods share the Ridglea name, and buyers mix them up all the time. Here's the short version.
- Ridglea Hills (this one) is south of Camp Bowie, bigger, and mostly 1950s and '60s mid-century and ranch homes.
- Ridglea North is north of Camp Bowie, smaller, and older. It was platted in 1928 and built around Berney Park, so you'll find a wider range of house ages and styles.
- Ridglea Country Club Estates is farther southwest off Southwest Boulevard. It started in 1966 around Ridglea Country Club's championship course and has a single entrance.
If you like the area but not the specific house, look at all three.
A short history of Ridglea Hills
The Ridglea name traces back to A.C. Luther, often called "The Father of Ridglea." He bought pasture land along what's now Camp Bowie, reportedly for $400 an acre, and the Luther family went on to build Ridglea Village, the Mediterranean-style shopping strip that opened in the 1940s. Fort Worth annexed Ridglea in 1944. (Camp Bowie District)
Most of the houses in Ridglea Hills went up in the 1950s and '60s. (Fort Worth Report) Next door, the Ridglea Hills Addition's association notes that many of its original owners were officers at nearby Carswell Air Force Base, now Naval Air Station Fort Worth Joint Reserve Base. What kind of homes are in Ridglea Hills?
Mid-century modern and ranch homes, mostly single-story and mostly brick. Low rooflines and wide fronts, with big trees overhead. Lots run larger than in the older neighborhoods closer to downtown.
The houses around Luther Lake are a category of their own. It's a private lake inside the neighborhood, and those lakefront lots don't come up often. At Christmas, the lights reflecting off the water draw a lot of visitors.
A lot of original 1950s homes are still on the market here, and that's where both the value and the risk are. Some have been beautifully updated. Some still have the original bathrooms. Price per square foot can swing widely on the same street, so comparing renovated with unrenovated is where I spend a lot of time with buyers.
Neighborhood association and events
The Ridglea Hills Neighborhood Association is volunteer-run and voluntary to join. It isn't an HOA. Its calendar of member events includes an Easter Block Party, an Independence Day Parade and block party, National Night Out, Halloween in the Hills, and quarterly membership socials.
The association also points to Ridglea Hills Park and Ridglea Hills Elementary as neighborhood focal points.
What schools serve Ridglea Hills?
Fort Worth ISD. Ridglea Hills Elementary is at 6817 Cumberland Road. That doesn't guarantee a particular house is zoned to it, so check the address on the district's School Finder. If you're still comparing areas, I cover more of them in this Fort Worth neighborhoods post.
What's near Ridglea Hills?
Camp Bowie Boulevard is at the top of the neighborhood. These were open when I checked in fall 2026:
- Ridglea Theater, 6025 Camp Bowie Blvd. A mid-century theater that now hosts concerts, comedy, and film nights.
- Campisi's, 6150 Camp Bowie Blvd, for Italian and pizza.
- Szechuan Chinese Restaurant, 5712 Locke Ave, a long-running neighborhood spot.
- Fred's Texas Cafe, 7101 Camp Bowie W Blvd, for burgers and chicken fried steak.
- Swiss Pastry Shop, 3936 W Vickery Blvd, since 1973. Get the Black Forest cake.
- Ridglea Library, 3628 Bernie Anderson Ave, a Fort Worth Public Library branch.
Kincaid's and the rest of the Camp Bowie strip in Arlington Heights are a few minutes east, and the Cultural District museums are just past that.
Pros and cons of Ridglea Hills
- Pro: A full neighborhood calendar, run by neighbors who show up.
- Pro: Mid-century houses on roomier lots than you get closer in.
- Pro: Quick access to I-30 and Camp Bowie.
- Con: Many homes still need full updates. Budget for it.
- Con: 1950s houses can have smaller closets and older layouts than buyers expect.
